May 24, 1969 –
USS San Diego (AFS-6) is commissioned in San Diego, California. On that historic day, shipmates received orders to man the
rails and bring the ship to life. 50 years later, shipmates from that event along with shipmates that followed will gather
to celebrate the ship’s 50th Anniversary, to honor a great ship and fellow shipmates!
Our 2019 reunion begins with our Welcome Reception on Thursday evening,
50 years to the date of our ship’s commissioning. We will host our event at The Harbor Club located on the 2nd floor
of the Waterside District Marketplace from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm with a light menu.
The Harbor Club, located just a short walk from The Sheraton, is inside
the Waterside District Marketplace and has fantastic views of the Elizabeth River and surrounding area. Norfolk’s premier
dining and entertainment district is a central place where you can hang out, dine and relax with your whole family. Waterside
District features the best of national, regional and local restaurants and offers live music, festivals and more. Located
in the heart of the central business district and adjacent to the City of Norfolk’s world-class waterfront and festival
site, Waterside District is a great gathering place for all to enjoy.
Afterwards, our Hospitality
Suite will be open till 11:00 pm for those that want to meet new shipmates and catch up on old times.
For those shipmates that are driving downtown, The Waterside Garage located directly across the street offers self-parking
